How to choose a dining & movies credit card

Dining and movie credit cards combine accelerated rewards on restaurants and food delivery (Swiggy, Zomato) with monthly free movie tickets via BookMyShow. For the right user — someone who eats out weekly and watches a movie a month — these cards print value worth several thousand rupees a year on a ₹500-1,000 fee.

What to look for

  1. Dining accelerator structure. HDFC Diners Privilege gives 5X on Swiggy/Zomato. SBI Card PRIME gives 10 RP per ₹100 on dining (~2.5% effective). EazyDiner IndusInd stacks 25% off on top of restaurant offers. Check whether the discount applies to delivery, dine-in, or both.

  2. BookMyShow movie benefit. Axis My Zone, RBL Play, and HDFC Diners Privilege all give buy-one-get-one or free tickets monthly. Caps vary: BOGO is usually capped at ₹250/ticket. A regular ₹400 ticket effectively means ₹250 paid per pair.

  3. OTT subscriptions bundled in. Many dining-category cards bundle Swiggy One, Times Prime, or SonyLIV memberships. If you already pay for these, the bundled value alone offsets the annual fee.

  4. Network limitations. Diners Club acceptance is narrower than Visa/Mastercard at smaller offline restaurants. Verify your local favourites accept Diners before counting on it.

Who should get one

Good fit

Get a dining & movies card if you order food delivery 3+ times a week and watch movies in theatres at least monthly. HDFC Diners Privilege and SBI Card PRIME suit weekly socialisers. RBL Play and Axis My Zone are lighter picks.

Skip if

Skip if you cook at home most days and stream rather than going to theatres. The accelerated categories only activate with real volume — without that, you're paying a fee for benefits you don't use.
